A common phrase often heard is, “Never meet your heroes, it’s never what you expect it to be”. But that’s exactly what I did on the 19th of September 2022.
On this day I had the honor to meet the author of one the books I simply devoured at the early stages of my journey into IT. The author’s name is Peter Kentie, title of the book is “Webdesign and HTML in de praktijk (Webdesign and HTML in practice)”. Little did I realize at the time that Peter was born and raised in the same city as I have and it was just by chance that I noticed his Linkenin page while doing research on the practicality of static webpages. It brought back so many fond memories of that time period. Quickly I noticed that we even shared common contacts, one of the being a director that I’ve come to know very well. Though that route I send out a “Thank you!” note to Peter, expecting little in return. But as it so happened, he replied fairly quickly and we exchanged a few messages, eventually I invited him over for coffee at our office.
Our conversation lasted over an hour where we both shared our experiences of our professional lives. I was so thrilled to hear about his career and the way the book came to be. The highlight of the day was when he signed my copy of the book, and we parted ways after the moment was captured for eternity.
It will be a day long remembered…
